Before any of this, before NSFF, before any stage, I was washing cars.
I had just finished high school, 2008, and I already knew what I wanted to do. Djing. There was a wave happening at the time, you could feel it everywhere, and I wanted in on it. Problem was the course cost money I didn't have.
My dad ran a music store. Music was in the house my whole life, his doing really. You'd think that meant he'd back me straight away. He didn't. He said no. Didn't see a future in it for me.
So I found the money myself. Car wash, day after day, saving what I could until I had enough for the course.
Nobody handed me that. I earned every shilling of it, soap and water and long hours, just to pay for something my own father wouldn't fund. There's an irony in that I still think about. The man who gave me the love for music was the same one who wouldn't help me chase it.
I did the course anyway. Still living off that skill today.
